<image:caption>I am a German-native professional soprano, German diction coach, and voice teacher, trained at the Juilliard School. My work centers on helping singers allow the German language to live fully within the voice—serving musical line, dramatic intent, and expressive freedom—across professional opera stages, young artist programs, and academic settings. Rooted in native linguistic knowledge and informed by long experience as both performer and pedagogue, my approach offers clarity and reliability in the most demanding performance environments, while keeping artistry at the center.</image:caption>

<image:title>about - About me</image:title>
<image:caption>I am a German-native professional soprano, German diction coach, and voice teacher, specializing in the application of German diction across professional operatic stages, young artist programs, and academic training. What distinguishes my approach is the integration of three perspectives: native linguistic authority, extensive pedagogical experience, and professional insight as a singer myself. I understand not only how German functions linguistically, but how diction must operate musically and dramatically on stage. In advanced performance settings, diction becomes an expressive tool—shaping phrase, color, rhythm, and character—rather than an end in itself. My coaching consistently connects pronunciation to musical line, textual meaning, and dramatic intent. With over twenty years of experience coaching at major North American institutions, I offer a structured, rule-based approach to German diction that provides singers with clarity and reliability in high-intensity performance environments, while preserving artistic freedom and expressive agency. Professional Stage & Opera Since 2008, I have served as German Diction Coach at San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, working on productions including Die Zauberflöte, Fidelio, Elektra, Salome, Arabella, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Die sieben Todsünden, Lohengrin, Tannhäuser, Parsifal, Tristan und Isolde, and Der Ring. In these settings, diction must function dependably under pressure. I provide singers with clear, consistent tools that allow them to maintain vocal freedom, focus on musical leadership and stagecraft, and integrate diction seamlessly into fast-paced rehearsal processes. Precision serves expression: diction enhances musical phrasing, dramatic clarity, and textual impact without becoming an additional cognitive burden. Young Artist Programs I have worked extensively with the Merola Opera and Adler Fellowship Programs at San Francisco Opera, the Butler Studio at Houston Grand Opera, the Atélier Lyrique at Opéra de Montréal, the Domingo–Colburn–Stein Young Artist Program at Los Angeles Opera, and the Marlboro Music Festival. For young artists transitioning into professional careers, my coaching bridges technical accuracy and expressive independence. At this stage, diction evolves from a set of rules into an interpretive tool. I guide singers toward a confident command of German that supports musical line, rhythmic precision, and dramatic intention. Emphasis is placed on internalizing phonetic consistency so singers can make informed artistic choices while meeting the linguistic expectations of professional houses and conductors. My work at this level focuses on long-term skill development—building habits that remain reliable across roles, repertoire, and rehearsal contexts. Students & Academic Training As a faculty member teaching German lyric diction, IPA, and advanced seminars at McGill University and the Université de Montréal, I work extensively with students developing foundational and intermediate skills and guide them through their preparation for operatic roles. At the academic level, I emphasize a clear understanding of German diction rules, phonetic structure, and stylistic awareness. Students learn how diction supports healthy vocal production, musical clarity, and textual comprehension. This structured foundation prepares them for the increasing demands of advanced repertoire and professional environments. A particular passion of mine is German Lied, and I regularly teach and present seminars on Lied repertoire, poetry, and performance practice, helping singers develop a nuanced and expressive relationship between text, music, and interpretation. Teaching Philosophy & Services Across all levels, my approach is shaped by my background as a native German speaker, professional singer, and experienced pedagogue. I understand not only how German functions linguistically, but how it must live within the voice and on the stage. I am available for private coaching, opera productions, young artist programs, masterclasses, and workshops in German diction, operatic repertoire, and German Lied and its poetry.</image:caption>
